As some of you know, I am an intermediate snowboarder1. As an intermediate snowboarder, I’ve picked up quite a few slang terms while carving my way down the mountain.
Even though my fellow snowboarders would be mad at me for revealing our terminology, I no longer want to gatekeep these inventive expressions:
Shredding The Gnar— This is the most classic snowboarding expression out there. It basically is just a slang term for snowboarding down the hill!
Gnarring The Shred— As you can imagine, ‘Gnarring The Shred’ is the exact opposite of ‘Shredding The Gnar’. Gnarring The Shred is when a snowboarder balances their financial accounts in the middle of summer with no snow, mountains, or jumps anywhere near them. Even snowboarders need to balance their financial accounts!
Bail— This is a term for when you fall while snowboarding, something that I’ve never done– not even when I was a beginner.
Bombing— When you go down the mountain fast– as I always do!
Two Slab Simpletons— This is the term we use to describe skiers, who all of us snowboarders hate.
Jelly Jelly Jelly, Give Me The Jelly, Please God— We say this when it starts snowing outside! Thank you, mother nature, for the fresh powder.
Papped And Strapped— This term can only be used by snowboarders who have recently been to the OBGYN for a pap smear and are currently strapped into their board.
This is good to know as a fellow snowboarder. Can’t wait for the newfound respect I’ll get on the slopes
Congrats on the blue trails, Andrew!
