Chinese Population Dips For The First Time Since Mao Zedong: Apple To Look Elsewhere For Child Laborers
China, once one of the fastest growing nations on the planet, has experienced its first year of population decline since the Great Leap Forward, Mao Zedong’s not-so-great plan that led to deadly, countrywide famines in the 1960s.
In response to this news out of China, Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple1, said that he is going to start looking into alternative countries to exploit children in, just in case China continues to shrink. Cook said that he was thinking of Bangladesh or “you know, something like that”.
According to an article from my competitor, The New York Times, many of the Chinese government’s recent policy changes and incentives designed to increase the nation’s birthrate have not been successful. China even tried to increase its population by relaxing their One-Child Policy to a Three-Child Policy, which unfortunately does not have nearly the same ring as ‘One-Child Policy’.
Studies show that India is poised to overtake China as the most populated nation in the world later this year. Perhaps Tim Cook can start his search there.
Good luck to Tim on his continued search for child laborers!
