State of the Newsletter Address
In honor of the State of the Union Address tonight, I figured that I would provide a State of the Newsletter Address, to ensure that all of my loyal subscribers are up to date on the recent happenings of this Newsletter.
First and foremost, I have decided to rebrand my Substack. The name, which once was Andrew’s Newsletter, the default name given to me when I first started this thing in December, has been changed to Toilet Read (Shoutout to the lovely and talented Maya Allen for the new logo and art). I call it Toilet Read because I feel that I provide bite-sized pieces of comedy that can be adequately enjoyed while taking your daily dump.
Now, to the numbers. This Newsletter, as of today, has 152 subscribers. There are 0 celebrity subscribers, at the moment, but I have faith that that statistic will change soon. Friday, February 25th, was my busiest day, when 71 new people engaged with my page. The most likes I’ve ever received on a post was 12, on the post where I ask for a practice interviewee (which, by the way, is coming up soon).
My average email open rate is around 65-75%, depending on the day. Also, I have found that emails tend to do better if they are sent before 3:00pm, for some reason.
Emotionally speaking, I am doing great. I love to write the Newsletter every day, I love to create new ideas and play with them for a few weeks until I find the right angle to take, and I love talking to my friends about which posts resonated with them and which posts didn’t.
In terms of goals for the next few months, I’d love to grow my Newsletter to reach even more people, so if you have friends that you think would enjoy some of this content, sign them up against their will or send me their email address so that I can do it for you! I would also like to be featured on the Substack homepage. Currently, they’re featuring a Newsletter about gardening (in the middle of winter), so if that speaks to how desperate they are for new voices, then that goal will be easily reached.
The State of the Newsletter, overall, is good. A Newsletter, though, is nothing without its readers, so thank you all for following along.
