Kids can take bad news pretty hard. That’s why it’s incredibly important to tread lightly when it comes to discussing potentially life-altering topics.
Throughout the past year, the whole world fell in love with the celebrity couple of Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson. They were as cute together as they were unexpected, but somehow, they worked! Unfortunately, though, reality has caught up with the duo and the couple has officially split up as of this week.
Many parents across the world, though, are having trouble breaking this news to their children. I’ve come up with some useful tips that you can use when informing our youth about this heartbreaking development.
Tip #1: Find A Quiet Place
Whether it’s the family room or the backyard, find a quiet spot where your child can sort out their feelings after you break this hard news to them.
Tip #2: Be Direct
With things like this, it’s best not to beat around the bush. As soon as you arrive at your quiet location, gently let your child know that Kim and Pete are no longer an item.
Tip #3: Prepare For A Breakdown
This news absolutely rocked me. I’ve been immobile for days since hearing about this, and I am an adult with a fully developed frontal lobe. I can’t imagine hearing about this as a fragile child. Bring some of their favorite snacks, plenty of hugs, and, of course, lots and lots of tissues.
Tip #4: Listen To Them
Above all else, let your child know that their feelings are valid. The world is a cruel, cruel place. The best thing that you can do, as a parent, is be a shoulder to cry on and a person to lean on in these trying times.
The frontal lobe isn’t really finished growing until 25 so this may explain your immobilization from this tragedy
